Alternative Certification Program

The Alternative Teacher Certification program is designed to prepare professionals, with a bachelor’s degree, for a career in teaching. Complete online modules and get paid to teach while completing your year-long internship in an approved Texas school district, with the support of a personal mentor. Upon successful completion, students earn 12 graduate hours toward a master’s degree.

Program participants must be employed as a full-time teacher while enrolled in this program.

The total cost for the program is $5995. This bundle price includes all tuition and fees for the 12 graduate hours you will complete. Program tuition is not eligible for financial aid or scholarship, but SHSU has partnerships with several Houston area school districts that offer financial support.

*If you have previously taken a PACT exam or any TExES Content Exams, and been unsuccessful two or more times, the PACT exam will be required.
